The final exhibition display. I’m really proud of how it’s come together, and love seeing the variety of materials!
As a last touch, I added some decorative plywood sheets on the floor, to build the idea of walking through a landscape. I think there is a good flow to the space, which follows in a circle. It allows you the space to walk around and observe. I also think there’s a nice balance between wall and ‘table’ pieces, it breaks up the narrative and keeps the space fresh.
I’ve been thinking about where to add decorative elements to my space. If I add on the wall, I think it will detract from the canvas and other wall pieces. Any detail would look best on the plinths, which would add a ‘punch’ and visual context to the ceramics.
I decided to paint shapes found in the landscape, and as there are 2 plinths, I want a ‘double act’, something that goes hand in hand, so decided the sky and the sea. The yellow represents the sun, with repetitive circular motions. The blue represents the sea, as the wavy shapes representing the flow of water.
I think these add an illustrative element to the space, but not too much detail as to distract from the work. See below for the results.

I’m not yet finalised what to put onto the plinths. I know the first piece in turquoise glaze will, but I don’t think the mountain piece in the second goes with the colours? I think it was a mistake to paint green underglaze, as this has come out in a dull khaki colour, and clashes with the blue and browns.
This is the current stage of setup! I’ve mounted my canvas’ on the wall, centre aligned. I decided to mount them with mirror plates. I want them to look professional, but also to minimise the hanging mechanism, so I coated it in white paint afterwards to further cover it up, making sure to do more than one layer.
On the adjacent wall, I’m putting up the collage pieces I’ve made. I’ve placed them horizontally, centre-aligned, to let the eye follow around the wall. If they were not level like this, I think it would create confusion for the viewer, as if they think the composition gave a particular context to the work.
Lastly, I’ve decided to put my first batch of ceramics on the blue plinth. I think this mountain piece with the blue ‘river’ works nicely, in colour and composition. It suggests a river flowing from the mountain. It gives me notions of religion, as if a path to a higher place, literally and figuratively.
